Obituary for Rex Lester

Rex  Lester
Rex Gilbert Lester, 95, born December 15, 1921 in Vancouver, Washington, passed into the arms of his Lord on News Year Day at Patriot’s Landing, Dupont, Washington.

Rex was one of the last of the Greatest Generation. He enlisted in the Army at age 16, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. He rose to the rank of Captain and retired in 1958.

Rex then spent the majority of his work life in Federal Service. He was a Civilian Personnel Director for the FAA and the Coast Guard. He retired from Federal Service and worked for local government.

Rex was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Betty) and daughter, Mary (Eason). Rex was devoted to his family and his Catholic faith. A Knight of Columbus, he also served his local parish, St. Charles in several ministries.

Rex is survived by his children, Jerry (Corliss), Lori (Roger), John (Kathie) and Paul (Jodi). He is also survived by numerous loving grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be recited on January 10, 2017 at 7:00pm in the Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel, 1002 S. Yakima Ave., Tacoma, Washington. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on January 11, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church followed by a reception in the parish hall. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
